What Is A TapeTree?
I became so overwhelmed by tape offers I could never have dubbed them all. It appears that
tapers like to spread their favorite band whenever they score a killer show. So I have
created a Tree Your Own area on the The Closed Tree Page. This allows you to share your
favorite recordings. You do the show review and write up, I'll post your tape with the
other open trees. tapetree.com will collect the sign ups and at closing let you or
tapetree.com complete the structure your choice. For more information check out the The
Closed Tree Page.

What Is A Subscriber
Subscribers are tapetree.com users who rent a web directory for their tape lists. Their
tape list is housed in a password protected directory here on the site. Once a person
becomes a subscriber they are then placed on a separate tree structure for all trees. The
subscriber trees are limited to five permanent members per branch. the recordings are made
available to the branch leaders upon the tree announcement. For more subscriber
information please refer to the subscribers page

Commercial Sponsorship
I am always open to new commercial sponsorship. I would like to see tapetree.com grow
and excced my wildest expectations. The only way this can happen is with commercial
sponsorship. Depending on the sponsor tapetree.com can host web sites, design web sites,
create graphics and provide basic web services. Arrangements for clickable banners and
endorsements are also available. For further commercial sponsorship information please
send Email to nick@tapetree.com

The History Of tapetree.com
The site began in late '92 as a computer bulletin board system (BBS) called Terrapin
Station. The BBS quickly became a traders heaven where you could find the latest and
cleanest Grateful Dead shows around. Terrapin grew to four incoming phone lines. Many
people still did not have Net access so they would call the BBS for setlists, show info
and trading. During the 93/94 I started offering audio trees on Terrapin.
Due to Jerry Garcia passing and personal hurdles I shut Terrapin Station BBS down for
the last time in September of 95. By December a internet company convinced me to create a
new version of the BBS called Tapers Groove. It was designed to accomplish the same tasks
as Terrapin Station BBS but covering a more broader spectrum of bands. By December 96 the
internet company that was sponsoring the development of Tapers Groove went out of business
when the phone companies began providing Internet service.
In February '97 after a short break I decided to tree recordings once again and created
a personal web site. Within a few months my personal site could no longer handle the load
and in June '97 tapetree.com was born. During October of '97 tapetree moved from Upstate
New York to San Diego CA. Where I am located today.

The Future Of tapetree.com
In reality tapetree.com had no goals or future plans. Now that the site has to mutated
into something much larger than I ever anticipated and more rewarding than I could have
ever imagined. I have naturally acquired future goals.
One of my deepest desires is to have a wall full of decks spinning around the clock.
Can you imagine how quickly the trees would move and how many copies could get out there
if one spin could yield numerous copies. To reach this point I think we will need numerous
subscribers or some great commercial sponsorship.
Another goal is to start broadcasting some of these shows across the web. Not everybody
has the ability to listen to web radio at this time. In the future more and more people
will be tuning in on the Web. I would like tapetree.com to become a web station host
spinning the shows I tree. The right commercial sponsor could make this a reality for all
of us.
Of course I have other dreams and hopes for tapetree but getting a smooth and quick
number of tapes distributed is a focal point.

Info About Your Host Nick
You may wonder what kind of person would go to all this trouble designing a web site to
give away recordings. Well I was born '64 on John Lennon's birthday 10/9 so you can figure
my age out from that.I grew up in Southern CA. and my father was a major NRPS fan. I
attended my first Grateful Dead show at 13 and considered myself a Deadhead from that day
forward. All through the 80's I traded tapes off and on.
In the early 90's someone spun me a bunch of shows straight from DAT and I learned what
quality was. I soon purchased my first digital decks and began DAT trading. It didn't take
long for me to dump the book cases full of analogs and go strictly DAT.
I have always been a audiophile and in the mid 80's I left Southern CA. for Upstate New
York. During my twelve year stay in New York I received my degree in speech
communications, taught myself the computer, did my time as a DJ, radio producer, band
member, musician, song writer and sound man. All while pursuing a ten year career as a
banker. Today I reside in San Diego. I work at a non glamourus job full time. I hope to
pursue a full time role in radio as a future career. I am open to a new employment path.

Are tapetree.com audio trees legal?
The music made available on tapetree.com are legal recordings. The recordings are of
bands who allow audio taping. The recordings must be distributed without profit. The
rights to the performance on the belong to the musicians (or representives) on the
recording. The songs belong to thier copyright holders and the actual rights of the
recording are held by the person who taped the show.
Most of the bands who allow taping have a tight fan base and don't receive commercial
radio play or would like to enhance thier audience. Since I began treeing tapes online in
93/94 tapetree has help numerous bands spread thier tunes and gain a larger national
audience. All though with recent legislation the RIAA may not agree with this method of
distribution and move to close or fine some sites that offer recorded material. Please
keep in mind the RIAA protects a certain segment of the recording industry and they do
have biased opinnions, rules and agendas that do not reflect all artists.
For more information on the legalaties of distributing live recordings I reccomend a
couple of the following links and articles:
